The Royal Navy has carried out the first trial of a quantum navigation system that could allow a vessel to know its precise position anywhere in the world without using GPS.

It is hoped that this technological breakthrough will give the British forces an advantage during war and is currently being trialled on a Royal Navy research ship.

Sky News’ science and technology editor Tom Clarke went on board.
