Cyclone Gabrielle: New Zealand declares national state of emergency

New Zealand has declared a national state of emergency for only the third time ever, as the country is battered by Cyclone Gabrielle.

Prime Minister Chris Hipkins has said homes are without power and families have been displaced after “extensive damage” across the country.
